On the early morning of July 4, relentless storms dumped 10–12 inches of rain in just a few hours over the Hill Country, causing the Guadalupe River to rise 22–30 feet—surpassing the peak of the 1987 flood. The sudden flash flood swept through Camp Mystic, a summer camp for girls in Hunt, and nearby communities, collapsing cabins, sweeping away vehicles, and inundating homes.
The scale of this tragedy is truly overwhelming—over 80 lives confirmed lost in Kerr County, with dozens still missing. Let’s hold all these families close in our thoughts and prayers, lifting up those who are grieving and those working tirelessly to bring hope and recovery.
Merciful God,
We come before You with heavy hearts for the families in Kerr County, Texas, who have lost beloved children, parents, and friends in the catastrophic floods. Wrap them in Your loving arms as they navigate unimaginable grief. Bring comfort to those who mourn, clarity to those still searching for missing loved ones, and strength to every soul plunged into sorrow by this tragedy.
Give wisdom and courage to the rescuers and all who assist in recovery efforts. May hope emerge through acts of compassion and unity. Let Your presence be their refuge and guide in these dark hours. In Your grace, restore light where there is despair; let community and faith bind broken spirits together.
Amen.
